SEVEN Ways To Get Through Your Work Day Intact

IF YOU are cringing at the thought of going to work each day, feeling overworked, or even under utilised and drained of energy, then you are not alone.

In the Stress & Wellbeing in Australia Survey (2014), 44% of working people identified work as a source of stress and 48% of Australians cited ‘work demands’ as a barrier to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

This is a massive bummer considering many of us spend most of our waking hours at work.

Statistically, the chances of us winning Lotto are pretty low, so it is likely that next week will be spent at work rather than sipping mojitos on a tropical island.

So if you have found that you have completely lost your work mojo, and feel you have no choice but to still be there, it makes sense to start doing things to make our work day more appealing, less stressful and reasonably enjoyable.

If you are one of nearly half of working Australians who cite work as a source of stress, start adding some of these tips into your daily routine and see if it makes a difference.

1. Keep It Simple. Simplify what is on your desk. If you have a decluttered space to undertake your daily masterpieces, then you will be more able to focus. A cluttered desk equals cluttered mind. This also means everything that could distract you (yes, sorry — your mobile, put it away my friend).

2. Re-Frame. If work doesn’t get your endorphins flowing and you look at it as a rather dull way to spend your day, reframe work as the funder of your life and let it fund the other 16 hours of your day. Be grateful that you have work, which enables you to pay for your home, your bills and your hobbies. If you don’t have anything exciting outside of work, than start creating it. What do you love to do? Or for many of us, what have you forgotten what you love to do?

3. Do One Task At A Time. It sounds like a stupid thing to say, but many of us have problems with doing one thing at a time. We are big multi taskers, but quite frankly, multi-tasking means tasks are being done half-assed. You’ll feel better and less stressed if you just do one thing at a time. Your work will be of higher quality, and it will get completed at a quicker rate.

4. Move Your Body. The majority of us spend an awful lot of time sitting on our bums at work, and then at home for that matter. Something that our bodies are just not made to do. If you are getting stressed and worked up, where is the negative energy going if you are just sitting? Yes, nowhere. It is sitting inside of you. No wonder you are grumpy by the time you get home. Try moving about more at work, and get out of the office at every opportunity.
