ABOUT

Marny is a Psychologist, Personal Coach, Author, Keynote Speaker, Columnist & Media Commentator.

 

She works with individuals and corporate groups to promote personal and professional growth, and speaks on a wide variety of topics to promote mental health and wellbeing. Marny provides media commentary on a variety of mental health topics on local and national TV, radio and in print. She is Channel 9's Resident Psychologist in Perth, and is a columnist for Body + Soul. 

 

Marny believes that the challenges that many people face are that they lack the knowledge, the mindset and the lifestyle balance that one needs to live a healthy, satisfying & fulfilling life.

 

To solve these problems Marny presents at workplaces and events as well as provides coaching and mentoring to individuals. She is passionate about prevention and believes not everyone will reach out when they need support, so everyone needs to learn the tools and techniques to promote a healthy mindset, wellbeing and success. Marny can work with you closely with one of her THRIVE MENTORING packages. For those who want to engage in personal intensive mindset work can work on an individual basis with me. My mentoring packages encompass not only psychological & coaching techniques but mentoring based on my own life experiences.

 

I teach people how to become calm, confident and in control by working with you to facilitate psychological wellbeing and put you on the pathway to where you personally want to go. I do this by working through a holistic process which includes evidence-based techniques and strategies I know will make an enormous difference to your wellbeing and success.

It can take courage to change but if you are prepared to find new ways of responding to old situations and redirecting your life by taking on board what we discuss in our sessions, then our work together will be life changing. I've had the privilege of working with hundreds of clients over the years and watching their stories unfold has made me love my job even more!

 

You can expect that I will provide an open and accepting space to explore your challenges and develop workable solutions, hold you accountable for the goals you set yourself, and collect feedback from you during every session. THE THRIVING PROFESSIONAL: 7 Key P’s

As the saying goes “…you can’t pour from an empty cup” and never does this seem true than when we’re feeling stressed. Many professionals are wired for achieving, and self-care often takes a back seat. This presentation gives participants the knowledge and the mindset to work towards creating a satisfying and fulfilling life, even when we work in a stressful industry or under stressful circumstances. Marny will talk through the 7 key areas she has learned that busy professionals need to be aware of to build their capacity to live happy and healthy lives, both personally and professionally.

 

CORPORATE HUMOUR & THE POWER OF PLAY

Play has been shown to increase happiness, momentarily as well as over time, when we build more of it into our busy schedules. Play has also been shown to improve relationships, as it aids in connection with the people in our lives. What is this adult PLAY about, and how can we do more of it as adults? Marny will not only talk about the evidence behind this, but participants will engage in activities to get their creative brain working, so that they can get a taste of how play can make them more productive at work.

 

MANIFESTING SLEEP

Before the invention of the electric light most people were getting 10 hours of sleep a night. Us adults now get roughly about 6 hours a night, if we are lucky. Obviously, we can survive on this lesser amount of sleep, but comes at a cost. With our modern sleeping behaviours, we are pushing it way past what our bodies have evolved to do, and subsequently we’re feeling the consequences. In this seminar Marny will talk about the importance of sleep, and what needs to be put in place for sleeping to be manifested. Participants will take away some key sleep insights as well as a plan for managing their sleeping behaviours.

 


 

GRIT: THE SECRET TO SUCCESS

What do passion, perseverance, effort and stamina have in common? They’re the key ingredients of what makes someone successful. It takes more than intelligence or talent to get you to where you want to go, and there is increasing research that is demonstrating just that there is more to success than brains. It all comes down to doing what you love, healthy beliefs, resilience, hard work, challenging yourself, jumping into the fear and doing the work every day regardless of what else is going on in your life. It’s mindset, it’s grit. What is grit? Why is it necessary in the modern world? What does a grit mindset look like? And what can we all start doing in our personal and professional lives to become more ‘gritty’.

MAGIC IN THE MOMENT: STILLNESS FOR SUCCESS

Instead of being physically in the moment but mentally in the past or future, learning to be present can help us self soothe in times of stress. Learning how to be in the present moment is a must when we are prioritising self-care. From meditation to visualisation, from mindfulness to diaphragmatic breathing, Marny will teach several easy ways of getting back to the moment when feeling overwhelmed and participants will take away and try a handful of techniques to facilitate stillness in their lives.

I provide media commentary on a variety of psychological and health issues. I am a columnist for Body + Soul as well as the Channel 9 Resident Expert Psychologist on Nine Live Perth.

I have been quoted in a variety of print media including Marie Claire, Huffington Post, The Juice Daily, Natural Health Magazine, Cleo, International Business News, MindFood, Sydney Morning Herald, 9Coach, Good Health, Herald Sun, Courier Mail, The Project, ABC, WW Magazine, GQ Magazine, and many others.


I have also provided regular radio commentary with the crews from Mix 94.5, 6PR, 6iX, ABC, Triple M and Radio 2UE. 

I am passionate about making psychology easy to understand, more accessible and beneficial to the community. I hope to reduce the stigma attached to mental health issues so that everyone seeks help in times of struggle, as well as commits to personal growth starting at any age.

CHANNEL 9: NINE LIVE PERTH

I am 9 Live Perth's Resident Psychologist, and I talk about a variety of interesting topics weekly. This is a recent video talking about The Nocebo Effect. The Nocebo effect is the lesser-known sibling of the placebo effect. This is the phenomenon in which inactive treatments or just suggestions can actually bring about negative effects in an individual. For some, being informed of a pill or procedure’s potential side effects is enough to bring on real-life symptoms. It's more evidence as to why keeping positive and acting positive is important for all of us, particularly when we feel unwell.
